Entrepreneurs usually don’t give up easily?

So, you’re having a bad day, entrepreneurs do have them?

What entrepreneurs do when things aren’t working out, is something pretty special? Entrepreneurs might look despondent but they usually get over it very quickly. If you are feeling low because things aren’t working out as you have planned. Or you are tired worrying about you family or your business, don’t be alarmed, that usually happens to entrepreneurs who over work.

Maybe the pressure is getting to you and you feel like going and getting your old job back. Stop! Get a hold of yourself, nothing could be that bad. Remember why you left your ‘real’ job in the first place. You really don’t want to go back there, do you?

Entrepreneurs might look despondent but they usually get over it very quickly and get on with the job. Maybe they don’t leap tall buildings, but they will make breakthroughs.

 

Remember entrepreneurs are different to other people

 

As an entrepreneur, you have some very unique attributes or characteristics, which are tremendous in helping with problem-solving and decision-making. Use those gifts and trust yourself as you:

  • Visioning.
  • Action orientation.
  • Connect up the dots.
  • Generate ideas and opportunities.
  • Practice your action orientation.

 

Now start thinking and behaving like an entrepreneur

 

The first thing to do is to take some time out. Go to a nice place where you can relax with peace and quiet. Now just sit there and think and reflect on the things that are bothering you. Take you time and take a few notes, don’t leave your good thoughts to go to waste.

  • Take time to think clearly about you problems, frustrations and your wants and needs.
  • Now review your purpose, vision and objectives. Make sure you can clearly articulate them and they still make sense.

I find that if I talk to my dog in a loud voice, I not only have a good listener, the mear fact that I verbalise what I am thinking, helps me to see and understand a great way forward.

You might also have a brief discussion with your dog about what you are doing and why you find yourself thinking about giving up

Change the conversations you are having

 

Now you have had the conversations with your dog, look to change the conversations you have back at work and with your family.

Remember a problem shared is a problem halved and it is your family that do the heavy lifting when things aren’t working out, so they have the right to know how you ar thinking. They can usually detect that something is wrong with your behaviour.

Take some time out to visit with other entrepreneurs and seek their advice. They have more than likely been where you are right now and will understand. What you need is not theory, but reliable, practical, helpful and useful advice from someone who has been there.

Create new conversations, that will lead to better relationships,  better health and a better business as well as a nicer place in which to live and work. Why not go back to the office and start new conversations about improving your working environment and working arrangements.

 

Review your value chain

 

Who’s in your value chain and what are they doing. Are they adding value or are they causing you grief with their lack of ability? There could be many people and organisations in your value chain who’s actions just don’t match their rhetoric.

Analysing your value chain is useful in working out how you can not only create the greatest possible value for your customers but how you can address your own problems, frustrations wants and needs.

Changes in your value chain could be the springboard to the future you are looking for now. Maybe this could be the catalyst you need to do more delegating and outsourcing. This may be the way to reduce you working hours to a more respectable level and help you to enjoy life again.

 

Start believing in yourself again

 

Reinvigorate your will to win, your tenacity and determination to overcome your current situation by trying a different approach. There are people depending on you.

  • You can find a better way forward
  • You can find the money and resources you need.
  • Spend more time understanding the technology and systems you need to help you.

It does help to maintain objectivity and perspective. You might find it easier to do this by engaging an advisor.  If you lean on your own understanding can take too long.

As an entrepreneur, I have to say that I do not believe in quitting, While I think there are definitely times when you should quit. Like when you are sick of your ‘real’ job, or when you have exhausted all options and you finally come to the conclusion that your business is not going to work out for you anymore. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

Don’t beat yourself up

 

I used to beat myself up every time something wasn’t working to my liking. For years  I would make mistakes in almost every aspect of my business.  Hiring the wrong people, picking people with incompatible values, making bad marketing decisions, losing an important customer,  not getting traction with my proposals and the list goes on.

Eventually, I would figure it out and learn something valuable from my mistakes and failures. I have now become conditioned to not look back, but to accept what is going on learn the lessons to be learned and keep moving forward.

In the meantime, I recommend you simply remember that it is always darkest before the dawn, and tomorrow is a new and unused day for you to take a new approach and perhaps go and visit some entrepreneurs you know and respect.
